Sheet (Steel Sheet/Plate)
Introduction to Steel Sheet
Steel sheet (or steel plate) is one of the most widely used flat steel products, manufactured by rolling slabs. It is available in various thicknesses and dimensions and is used across a wide range of industries — from construction to automotive manufacturing.
Types of Steel Sheet
Hot rolled sheet (black sheet): Produced via hot rolling, suitable for construction and general industrial use.
Cold rolled sheet: Features a smooth surface and high-quality finish, ideal for precision industries.
Galvanized sheet: Coated with zinc for corrosion resistance.
Color-coated sheet: Galvanized sheet with a colored coating, used for facades and roofing.
Alloy and industrial sheet: Designed for special applications requiring specific mechanical properties.
Production Process of Steel Sheet
Steel sheet is produced either by hot rolling or cold rolling. In hot rolling, slabs are passed through rollers at high temperatures to reach the desired thickness. In cold rolling, hot rolled sheet is further reduced in thickness at room temperature, improving its surface quality and dimensional accuracy.
Applications of Steel Sheet
Building construction and prefab warehouse production
Automotive manufacturing
Home appliances
Industrial tanks and equipment
Shipbuilding and marine industries
Key Features of Steel Sheet
Wide range of thicknesses and dimensions
Good formability and weldability
Appropriate resistance to pressure and corrosion (in coated types)
Factors Affecting Steel Sheet Prices
The price of steel sheet is influenced by slab prices, energy costs, exchange rates, type of coating, thickness, and the manufacturer’s brand. Domestic and global steel market conditions also play a significant role in determining the final price.
